Comments on: Release changes, the poll and CodeWeavers http://vineyardproject.org/2011/04/release-changes-the-poll-and-codeweavers/ Windows programs on Linux, easily Wed, 08 Jun 2016 12:39:57 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.4.10 By: Christian Dannie Storgaard http://vineyardproject.org/2011/04/release-changes-the-poll-and-codeweavers/comment-page-1/#comment-140 Sun, 18 Aug 2013 19:22:28 +0000 http://vineyardproject.org/?p=195#comment-140 Hello Samber,

Yes, there are Flattr and PayPal donation buttons in the top-right of the website – you are of course very welcome to use either to donate to the project.

It has unfortunately been quite a while since I’ve made any updates to Vineyard, I know. I work as a freelance programmer and unfortunately this work is taking up all my time, leaving pretty much nothing for Vineyard.
Do you have any specific features or improvements you’d like to see? I know that I’d like to see the new audio drivers for Wine 1.0 implemented properly and possibly easier handling of different Wine versions, but getting some input from users such as yourself would make it much easier for me to make a roadmap and get some updates out.

Thanks for taking the time to write!

Cheers,
Christian

Could I contribute economically or with hardware to this project?
I haven’t seen any updates in a long time and I would love to.

Are there any specific features in PlayOnLinux you’d like to see in Vineyard? I’ve already prepared the backend for separate Wine versions, so that might be something?

Hmm… Dolphin integration… I have some trouble finding info on how to extend Dolphin, but that may just be due to my unfamiliarity with KDE in general. Would a right-click menu suffice? That seems pretty easy to implement – for selecting Windows version and virtual desktop settings maybe?

Thanks again for writing, and for following Vineyard on twitter.

I’ve tried other solutions for managing Wine and frankly I find yours to be the best. You have made a program that does what I expect it to do and, unlike other applications which will remain unnamed (I’m pretty sure I’ve tried them all), it’s simple and easy to understand.

PlayOnLinux is comparable, but I use it only for very specific things, whereas I use Vineyard for everything else. Granted I don’t need Wine very often and when I do I am mostly playing around (trying out some throw-away game or comparing a Liunx app’s features to it’s Windows counterpart), but Vineyard is where it’s at for basically all of my Wine usage.

These are just my opinions of course, just thought I’d let you know I am using your program and find it very useful and I can’t be the only one :) The only thing I find missing is Dolphin integration similar to that found in Nautilus (Kubuntu users always come last, if at all, it seems).

There’s also the RSS feed, that I’m glad you’re subscribed to – thank you – and regular updates on Twitter (no identi.ca unfortunately), but I still get very little feedback – it’s a bit puzzling to me.

Maybe the website is too confusing? Maybe there aren’t enough pretty pictures to capture people’s attention? I don’t know.
I would love to get some feedback on what’s keeping people short on the feedback – everyone, feedback on the feedback please!

Thank you for the kind words and for sharing your thoughts – you’re an example.
Also a special thanks to the few die-hard-bug-reporters that have been following and helping Vineyard!

I’m using the PPA so I visit you site every now and then to read the changelogs. I think it’s great that you keep updating with news of the project. It occured to me that I hadn’t subscribed to your RSS feed, but now I have!

I think it’s a great project and unfortunately one that is needed (unfortunate in the sense that you need to run some Windows program on Linux and in the sense that Wine isn’t all that user friendly), but it’s fortunate that people like yourself step up and make terrific software. Keep it up!
